Pre-Sale Inspections

Prior to selling your home, the Commonwealth requires that the Fire Department inspect the entirety of your house to make sure the installed fire protection systems are up to current standards. This includes, however is not limited to, smoke and carbon monxide alarms, heat detectors, and sprinker systems.

Although there are no residential requirements on fire extinguishers, it is highly suggested that a minimum of one extinguisher is kept somewhere nearby in the kitchen, however not so close to the stove that it would be inaccessable in the event of a fire. Other Inspections

The local Fire Department is also responsible for the insepction of certain other things following their installation. The installing company will submit a permit for the installation prior to beginning the work, and will generally submit the fee as well. This includes, but is not limited to-

  • Oil Burning Furnace
  • Oil Tank (Interior and Exterior)
  • Liquid Petroleum (LP) Tanks
  • Water Heaters
  • Vent-Free Heaters
